My new best friend

I met my new best friend at the Adoption Open House on Dec 7 in The Heights, and she came to live with me on Dec 9th. She has adapted so well to my house and my busy life, we have had a wonderful beginning. She is the sweetest dog, very loving, and just LOVES to curl up in my lap. (where she is right now). Her name was Kenna, but I have decided I will call her Gerti, a favorite great aunit's name from my German side of the family. Here is a picture of my new BFF, isn't she just the cutest dog ever? I am so glad I found her and she found me!

Bayley - Little Man in Charge

(formerly Bay) My Mom had two rottweilers that she loved very much but they got old and sick and then died this summer. My Mom was very sad. Then she decided to rescue a mini schnauzer because she had always loved little schnauzers. Several of her friends had mini schnauzers and my Mom thought they were so cute. She liked their personalities a lot. A big dog attitude in a little dog body.

She found MSRH and then saw my picture. She also saw some other little guys just as cute but after she drove 3 1/2 hours to see all of us she thought I was the cutest. So I got to go home with her. On the way home we stopped off at the Pet Store and she bought me a new car seat, new harness, new leash and my favorite food. Wow!!!! What a Mom! I've only been at her house less than a day but she is totally smitten with me. What's not to love. I'm a lover boy. Sweet disposition, not a barker, I follow her everywhere.

She has a big back yard with lots of squirrels to chase and exotic animals to look at in the wildlife sanctuary right out her back door. This is sooooo cool. I'm so happy and my Mom is too. She isn't so sad anymore. Our next adventure is travel. She is getting me ready to go on our next trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Wow! A new Mom, a new house and then traveling. Stay tuned for our adventures.

Macey - Formerly Lacey

Our story starts 5 years ago…When we stopped on the side of the road to look at puppies that were for sale and saw the cutest little gray puppy ever! What can I say...It was love at first sight, and we knew she had to be a part of our family! We scooped up that THREE pound ball of energy (Mallory) and took her home!

Fast forward five years, and Mallory found herself the only furry child left in the house. We had lost both of her Rottie sisters, one to old age, and the other to genetic health issues this past June. It was a sad house and Mallory was very lonely. Thanks to Mallory we fell in love with the Mini Schnauzer breed, and decided adopting was the way to go. I found MSRH and began looking at the available dogs. We were in the middle of having a pool built and didn't want to bring a new dog home until that mess was over. I switched my search over to the "Waiting In The Wings" section and saw Lacey (we've changed her name to Macey). Once again, it was love at first sight…What is it about this breed!?!

I filled out the application, and was approved, before I even told my husband and daughter about her. That night at dinner I showed them her picture and they asked what we needed to do to adopt her...I told them it was already done. We only had one hurdle; she was heartworm positive. Her treatment scheduled worked nicely with our plans. She would be finished, and ready to come home, about the same time our pool was completed. It was all so perfect; except for one thing…I couldn't stand the thought of her being in a kennel, all alone, while she went through the treatments. I made arrangements with Donna to bring her home after her first treatment and take care of her until she was finished.

We took Macey home on August 9th, 2013. I didn't want to blog about her until she was cleared from the vet. We got the all clear last week, and she's finally been able to really play with Mallory! This makes for two very happy Mini's in our house!

Macey is such a live wire, and so darn loveable! She loves having toys to play with, running in the yard, checking out the pool, sleeping on the human beds (upstairs and downstairs), and following her big sister Mallory everywhere. Oh yeah, and eating, she LOVES eating! Mallory's adjustment from little sister to big sister has gone very smoothly. She's showing Macey all the best places in the backyard for sniffing, and which neighboring yards have dogs that need to be kept in line! She even lets Macey use her as a pillow, she doesn't love that part of having a little sister, but she deals with it. Macey's antics have Mallory acting like a puppy again, and the laughter has returned to our house. She's keeping all of us on our toes (mostly because we're still working on the house training, good thing the downstairs is all tile!) and we are over the moon in love with her!

Thank you, MSRH, for taking care of her until she found her way to us!! We think you should make the MSRH slogan "Hakuna Matata". Because that's what happens when a Mini Schnauzer is lucky enough to make it to the MSRH doorstep…No more worries for the rest of their days!

Love,
The Sorensens
Randy, Christine, Kayleigh, Mallory and Macey!

Adam

It was a long day the 4+ hour drive to Houston. Marina, Donald and I packed into the car and started driving to Houston's Miniature Schnauzer Rescue. Back home the older two stayed home for various reasons. We met the wonderful people at the shelter and the foster parents of Adam and we understand how it was difficult to let him go.

His first day home, Adam was gentle and quiet but he did patrol the house and the back yard, scoping things out and learning the where things were. He went room to room checking on everyone.

Day two Adam woke up different, he had more energy, he was licking and chewing on my hand and just seemed to be at home. He discovered the rabbits that he had smelled on day one, but no he saw them in the back yard and had great fun chasing them to the fence.

Day three, well he got a bathe but he didn't seem to mind to much. He rides in the car great. He is a little worried about getting into the car but with his life of being dumped I'm sure he has good reason.

He truly is the perfect dog for our family. We are blessed to have found him.

Odie & Callie

I longed for a Mini Schnauzer puppy and hoped to adopt, but had been warned puppies didn't come along very often. Three weeks after searching, I found 2 on MSRH website, but they had to be adopted together. One look at those pups and I was hooked. The following Sunday I met Odie and Callie. That evening, they became Hansel and Gretel. We surprised our 9 year old daughter and we're all having a blast. H&G are about to take me to obedience school to learn a few manners, but they learned to sit, speak, and take walks. One of their favorite activities is to unroll a roll of toilet paper in a matter of seconds. Some of their favorite treats consist of natural treats from Wabash. We love our dogs. Thank you MSRH!!

Tatum

Hi, my name is Tatum and I have found my forever home! My new mom and dad are some very lucky people (and I might be a very lucky Schnauzer)! I was shy when I first got here, but now my new family is meeting the real me - I am even singing to them. I love to go on walks - in the morning with my dad and in the evenings with my mom. Car rides are especially fun and not to mention getting to entertain my new brother and grandparents. And you never know - the treat jar is on the counter and if I look really sad I might get one. My job is to protect the house and be a good watchdog.

Thank you Schnauzer Rescue for making us a family and bringing joy into our lives!

Lexi & Charlie

Lexi was my first adoption from MSRH in August of 2010. She is such a little princess and I now think I should have named her "Velcro"! She is the perfect lap dog and gets along well with the myriad of other rescues that allow me to care for them. I began volunteering shortly thereafter and a few months ago, I became Charlie's Foster Mom. Although he may never make the perfect pet for another family, we love him and will allow him to stay forever. He has bonded so to my husband that they would both grieve terribly if separated.
I know that this organization, myself included, do everything within our power to save every little Schnauzer we can. If they find a way here, they will find their way home, forever.

Nate Doggie

I lost my white schnauzer of 10 years on Thanksgiving 2011. I just couldn't talk about him, I was lost without him, so by accident I ended-up looking at the MSRH site. This was just to comfort m,y soul. I found out i could foster first before adoption so I would know me and the dog would get along. Long story short-Nate is the best thing in my life. He is just goofy and makes me laugh all the time. He loves going to the dog park and is fast like a greyhound. He pretends he doesn't know me when I call his name while we are there-unless he needs a drink of water! He is so smart and knows the name of all his toys and knows family members names as well. I can't say enough about him and how he has brought so much joy to me and many others. Thank you MSRH!

Mitzi (Previously Micky)

Mitzi has been a wonderful addition to our family. We absolutely adore her! She loves to cuddle and get attention. She really is the perfect dog for us. I can't say enough for the volunteers at MSRH! They do great work!!! Thanks!
