Scruffy Allen - A Big Part Of The Family !!

Hi Folks - I just had to share this New Beginnings story about Scruffy Allen. Those of you who regularly read the bios may remember Scruffy Allen as the dog whose owners left him tied to the door of a vet overnight. He was a little displaced and in need of some love and attention. I think you'll agree....he got that and so much more! Keep reading.......

Hi Donna,

Just a note while I’m sitting watching TV with our little man Scruffy Allen. Tom and I are so
happy that he checked on the internet and found Schnauzer Rescue of Houston.
After our loss of Snoopy, our household was very depressed. Kelly the German Shepherd
Therapy dog would not work well at the Rehab centers and Hospitals. Now Kelly and Scruffy
are the best of friends, and they play hard every day. They have a lot of respect for each other.
With the help of Kelly, Scruffy has learned to wait, come and sit commands. He is learning hand signals. He fetches the ball or his furry bone. He loves his two doggie doors. He even waits
for us to shut the back door so he can use the doggie door. Scruffy has full run of the back
yard, loves to play in water and mud too. Just a bath takes care of the dirt and mud. Vacuum
everyday takes care of the house. Scruffy loves to go in the HHR SUV for rides. Gives both
of us kisses on the ears and loves to sniff the air thru the windows.
I have taken Scruffy twice to a Rehab Center and he is doing very good. He soon will be a
Therapy dog.We do a lot of socializing and his shyness is going way. Tom walks Kelly and
Scruffy every morning about four blocks and he is doing well on the lead. He knows what
cows and deer are. He doesn’t bark just looks at them (about 20 yard or more away).
Scruffy and Trucker the cat nap with Tom every day. He goes to bed with Tom at night.
Scruffy loves his daddy.
Scruffy loves to entertain, as long as we laugh and clap and tell him he is so funny he will keep
going.
Our Nanny next door, has a Cairen Terry. They play at least three times a week. Our Vet. and groomer love Scruffy, very well behaved they say. In between grooming, Scruffy gets bathed at
home and his teeth brushed at least once a week.
Scruffy is a very smart Schnauzer and loves to learn. We do all our training with love, a lot of
petting and praise. With Kelly’s help Scruffy has become a very good watchdog. Does not bark
Excessive, only when necessary and loves to growl when someone walks to close to our vehicle. Our home and vehicle has become his. Tom says Scruffy has two speeds, fast and faster. I could
go on, and on about Scruffy.
Today the 29th of December, we took Scruffy and Kelly for a ride in the motor home. We
stopped at Office Depot and Chillis for lunch. Scruffy was so awesome. He never barked or
tore anything. He loves the motor home and loves to sit on the couch and look out the windows.
We are anxious to go on a small trip. He has so much trust in us as we have in him.
Kelly is now working well at the Rehab Centers, and Mom and Dad are so very happy and blessed. Scruffy was the best Thanksgiving and Christmas gift. We look forward to seeing
you, perhaps at another rescue fair. You are welcome anytime at our home to check on
Scruffy Allen our little man.
Please pass this note to other officers and members
Sincerely
Scruffy Allen’s Mom
MaryAnn

Mr. Magoo Comes Home

The day I adopted Moose, I met "Silas" at Donna Paparazzo's house. When she picked Moose up for me, she brought him home with her, too, for a mini-vacation from the boarding kennel.

I knew Moose had been in boarding for a long time, but Silas had been there even longer... I guess not surprisingly - he's half blind with cataracts and a little hard of hearing like most "old folks". But, even in the midst of being in love at first sight with Moose and as excited as I was about adopting him, there was something about this other little guy that tugged at my heartstrings. So, I told Donna I wanted Moose to have a month to adjust to his new home, my old Brittany, Webster and me and then I wanted to foster Silas.

The month flew by and almost to the day, Donna showed up with Silas in tow. He wasn't timid, but seemed a little sad as if he was waiting for the other shoe to drop and it would be back to the boarding kennel.

So, the first thing I did even though I was warned he'd been called Silas for over a year, was give him a new name: Mr. Magoo. Next he had a week to adjust some and then I took him to my groomer for a "makeover". I couldn't believe it when I saw him - the transformation was remarkable! (See for yourself in the pictures) When I picked him up, he LOOKED like a different dog, but when we got home and he walked back in the house, he BECAME a different dog.

It was as if a light bulb switched on and he realized that he was truly coming... HOME! And that night, he decided he wanted to sleep with me in the big bed... A pattern that hasn't changed. He began playing with the other dogs - in earnest - like three puppies! The years melted away and so he decided that the squirrels stealing acorns from our oak trees needed a sheriff and elected himself.

The months passed and the bond between the three boys grew ever stronger as they became a pack - a family. How could I possibly break up our family? In truth, I just couldn't bear to part with him, so I adopted my foster dog today. And, just as we celebrate October 28th, which is Webster's birthday, from now on we'll celebrate April 22nd as Moose's birthday and November 21st as Magoo's.

There's no denying that puppies are cute, sweet and funny... But, my wish for everyone reading this is that someday you have the opportunity to experience the joy and unconditional love of an older dog as I do every day when I see him chasing squirrels, playing tug and every night when Magoo lays his head on my shoulder and sighs in contentment.

The first picture is "Silas" - the next pictures are Mr. Magoo, handsome, happy and SECURE with his brothers, Webster & Moose.

Leslie Renee

Max, Bonnie and Kyle are happy to welcome the newest member of the family, Leslie Renee which we now call, Lillie. She seems to like that just fine. Lillie is very sweet and loves to cuddle and give kisses. She is a little bit shy, but seems to be adjusting well to her new surroundings and getting to know the four-legged members of the family, Callie and Chloe.

Bobby Magee

Hi, I'm Bobby Magee. My forever family adopted me on Sept. 28. Then, I was wondering if my forever family even had a home. We just kept traveling and staying in motels. But we finally made it to our new home in El Paso, TX. Now that I know we are home, my protective instinct has kicked in. My Mom thought I couldn't bark, cause she had never heard me bark. That was because I had no reason to. But now, it's my job to let her know when someone is around our house. It makes her happy, as she can't hear very good.
Tripp and Kaylyn fight over me all the time.lol I don't mind, I like the attention. I do like to keep my eye on Kaylyn though. You see, she is only 3 years old and she is such a messy eater and you know I have to help Mom keep the floor clean. My Mom is trying to teach her to be a little cleaner, but hey I don't mind.
I follow my Mom around everywhere, I mean I take everystep she takes. Except, when she takes a bath, I just kind of hang out by the door. I'm afraid she'll put me in there, I'm not crazy about the whole bath thing. She don't seem to mind that I follow her around, but boy she's never still. She's been unpacking boxes and cleaning for a week straight now. She never puts me in a crate and boy am I glad. She says I don't need one, because I'm such a good boy. So I enjoy sleeping in the big bed with her and riding in the car with her. My Dad really loves me too, he gets a kick out of me following Mom around everywhere and he's glad I get to be the man of the house protecting our family while he is working.
Thank you MSRH for taking such good care of me until my forever family found me, I will be forever grateful. I pray God will bless each of you, for your hard work. It takes special people to do what you do. My Mom will be forever grateful too, cause she says I'm a gift from God. I'm such a blessing to the family. Oh and my Mom says my only flaw is I'm not very photogenic, because I'm so much more handsome in person.

Halle aka Vera

When I was lost in Houston, I had a scary time. Fortunately, some kind soul scooped me up and took me to MSRH. There I was treated so well. All my needs were taken care of, but I knew this was only temporary. I began plotting how to find my Forever Home. My first was not quite what I had in mind, too hard. My second was too soft. Now I have a home that is just right! I live in a motorhome, a Winnebago, with my new family. I can't wait until we hit the road. There are so many things to smell out there. We will travel America. I will become very knowledgeable of the American Scent! Thank you, Susanne and Robert, for fostering me and helping my new family find me. Thank you, MSRH, for getting me in shape and ought there for my family to see.

Sam Houston....Livin' It Up In California!!

We're posting this report from Ken Larson who adopted Heinrik, now Sam Houston (paying homage to where he was rescued!), and drove from his home in California to pick Heinrik up from MSRH! Wow!! Here's what he had to say:
"Today was a wonderful day with Sam. He woke me at 4 AM ( 6 AM in Houston ) so I was up and out walking him in robe and slippers....Good thing it was dark! Later in the morning we took a walk and ended up at the top of the hill behind my house. We followed deer trails back down the hill home. Sam saw a 6 point Buck, Doe, and 2 yearlings on that walk. Next we went to town where he met some of my friends and his groomer. In the early evening Sam found the baseball....he grabbed it right away and play was on! After about 5 minutes, a neighbors 6 mo. old pup can running down the hill and the two of them romped for about 15 minutes until it was time for the pup to go home. Then more ball and some pictures. The picture is of Sam drinking in my back yard stream near the hill we climbed down this morning. I hope that you enjoy these and please feel free to share them with all of your MSRH friends. Sam and I are in love....what could be better! Thank you and MSRH, Ken"

I'm a Sooner?

My name is Raphie, previously Ralph, and my mommy and daddy adopted me about a month ago. Their little angel Sophie died and my sister Zoie was lonely, so they found me! I love my new home, I get to wear this funny looking jersey every Saturday while mom and dad watch some game on TV and then yell at it, which kind of freaks me out, but whenever something good happens they rub my head, pick me up and give me lots of kisses, and then they say "you're our little good luck charm!"
My sister Zoie is such a joy, we run around our big back yard, chase the birds and bark at the neighbors dogs. Sometimes mom and dad take us to the dog park where there is lots of dogs for me to play with. When I am a good boy I get a treat, and sometimes a new toy, there are toys everywhere in my new home, its like a toy store for dogs, only mom makes me pick them up before we go to bed.... sometimes I sneak them into my crate and play with them while mom and dad sleep!
My new home is a really great place and I love my mommy and daddy so much that when they are trying to work or do something besides play with me I sit and whine until they put me in their arms!

My Little Lover

In early May, my Border Collie died at age 15. So, I really NEEDED a new dog to replace all that love. I found MSRH online and made some choices to check out. On Memorial Day weekend, I met 3 year old Iris. We both fell in love and went home together.

Iris is now named Sophie. She loves everybody she meets. She has even learned to tolerate two cats. But, she has discovered squirrels in our backyard, and she is determined to save us from them. She has to be excused out the back door about every 30 minutes now to be sure the yard is cleared of those pesky squirrels, and if they're gone, then she'll watch out for those birds, too. Thank goodness, she is not a yapper. She is the very best squirrel pest control in the flower beds that I have found.

Sophie has learned quickly, adjusted readily, and now has a favorite chair. She already knew how to play fetch and loves to run with her rope in the backyard. She carries her toys around the house, but she also carries them back "home" to her pen. She is a little lady. She's learning to work better on a leash . . . except when a squirrel crosses her path. Then, she has to save me.

So far I've only had one problem with Sophie. She believes "early to bed and early to rise," whereas I am the opposite. Oh well, I guess she'll train me. The picture here is her "portrait" when I sent out email announcements of her new home. Thank you to MSRH for saving a wonderful little dog like Sophie!

I'll take care of the trash!

Tiger came to live with my mother and me in March 2010. He was supposed to be an older, white female for our older salt and pepper male. However, Jake , our male was the decision maker and went through 9 other fosters before he decided this 6 month old , black male was the only right choice. So we had no other choice but to bring this bundle of entertainment home, and he and Jake and the cat have bonded so very tightly, that it must have been a match made in heaven.

Two silver foxes

I'd been with my foster mom Susan for about 2 weeks when she told me someone was interested in giving me a forever home. I was so excited and hoped this was the real thing. I'm 10 years old, and I knew it might by hard to match me to just the right person; however, MSRH did just that! When we arrived at the meet and greet Susan opened the car door and pulled me into her lap. I couldn't wait so I stuck my head out the car door and looked, and there she was! I just knew this was my forever mom, and the wonderful part was that she knew, too! It's a match made in heaven. Her name is Jo and she has a wonderful big window I look out during the day while she's at work, and when she's home, we spend lots of time outside with her friends and their rescue friends Scout and Zelda. She's going to retire this year. I think that means she'll be home with me all day long. I can't wait! Mom says we look really good together because we both have silver hair. She says we're two silver foxes. She kept telling me that I was so sweet and such a little lady that we decided to change my name. I was Macey Jo, and now I'm Lady, and I'm very happy. Thank you MSRH for everything you did for me. And thank you Susan; you were a great foster mom!!!

STANLEY - A Poem From Mom!

I came across Stanley by happenstance one night.
As I looked at the MSRH adoptees on the website.
I have to admit he was not my first choice.
But, in the end the Good Lord gives you the voice.
He came to my home to meet a new brother.
He showed Germany and I he was like no other.
He has filled my life with love and much joy.
He may not be young or perfect but he is a special boy.
The love in my heart for Stanley is great and strong.
I know without a doubt he is where he belongs!

I love Stanley so much!

Sincerely,
Susan

Pierce here.....with a story to share!

Hello MSRH! It's Pierce here and I have some great news to share. I was adopted into my forever home last week. It's only been a couple of days, but I am settling in nicely. My new mom has been so good to me with all of the attention, toys and treats. She got me a fancy new collar and I have two beds by some woman named Martha Stewart. I don't know who she is but she really knows what a dog likes! Mom has sent pictures to everyone and says that I should be a schnauzer model. I don't really care about that as much as I do exploring and snuggling with her. I'm having fun but wanted to let you know that my foster mom, Rocio, was the absolute best. I knew she would make sure I went to the best forever home. Well, I have to go because there is another toy Mom wants me to check out! Have a Pawtastic Day! P.S. Mom says I will get a brother or sister in the future, so let my other rescue pals know to be on the look out!

New Beginnings - Fritz (Previously George)

Hello. My name was George. Now its Fritz. My foster mom picked me up from one of the wonderful kennels the MSRH uses when the "MSRH inn is full" (we always need more loving foster homes). She was great and I had so much fun with her crazy girls Jasmine and Fiona. I was only with my foster mom for a very short time because I was adopted into a new home AND had a 4 legged brother to play with. Boy... Life is great here with MSRH. You guys are truly awesome. I missed my foster mom. But I have a forever home just in time for Christmas. Stay tuned for updates from Life in the Fabulous Lane via MSRH!!!

Bunky

We adopted Bridgette on 6-27-10, our reason to adopt another dog was the dachsund we had was getting old and we knew that she wouldn't be with us much longer and we still had a two year old schnauzer so we adopted Brigette formerly known as Tessa, well we lost our Tia two days before thanksgiving it was sad but having Bridgette made it a little easier for our other schnauzer Brianna. Bridgette was a little scrawny when we got her but she is very healthy now so much so all the children call her Bunky. Thanks for her she really helped us through these holidays.Bridgette is the salt n pepper Brianna is the white schnauzer and our Tia is the black and tan dachsund.

Cooper

I had been wanting a dog for some time, and after looking at the MSRH website daily, I finally decided it was perfect timing! I filled out the application, and a week later I had appointments to visit 3 of the schnauzers...only to say I only made it to 1 of them because I fell in love with Cooper right away...and took him home with me the same day on October 2nd, 2010!! He is an amazing dog, and everything I wanted! He follows me everywhere, and he is playfull and cuddly. He loves his squeaker toys...he is so proud of himself when he finds that squeaker in the toy...he just lays there and squeaks for the longest time! Lets just say...Cooper got more Christmas presents than I did (spoiled much? I think so).
Thank you SO much MSRH for your wonderfull work and giving me my new best friend! God Bless you all!
